I had the privilege of photographing a beautiful Craftsman-style home in Glendale, California, styled by The Platform Experiment. This project was an exciting opportunity to capture the perfect fusion of history and modern design—two things that truly inspire me. The team at The Platform Experiment did a remarkable job of balancing the home’s original architectural details with an innovative approach to furniture and décor. It was a true testament to how thoughtful design can preserve the past while embracing the future.
Reviving a Historic Craftsman with a Modern Twist
This Glendale Craftsman home offers the best of both worlds. The space was carefully restored to highlight its classic architectural features, like the wainscoting, built-in cabinetry, and the rich, dark wood paneling that gives it a timeless charm. But what truly sets this project apart is how The Platform Experiment introduced iconic Amsterdam Modern vintage pieces to bring a bold, contemporary edge to the space. The combination of old-world elegance and modern design elements made for a space that feels both nostalgic and forward-thinking.
The rich color palette of this home also stood out to me. The deep, moody tones in the walls and furniture created a sophisticated atmosphere that felt timeless. The vintage pieces chosen for this project were not only functional but also visually striking, with each one carefully selected for its design and how it interacted with the space.
Capturing the Space Through My Lens
In my photography, I focused on capturing the contrast between the home’s architectural details and the bold modern pieces. The light in this home is incredible—natural sunlight filters through the windows, playing with the shadows and highlighting the textures in the space. As I photographed, I was able to capture how the vintage furniture interacted with the light, creating an atmosphere that was both moody and warm.
I also loved how the darker tones and vintage elements complemented the home's classic architectural features. Each shot tells a story of how history can coexist with contemporary design in a meaningful way. The final photos of this project were all about balancing the interplay of light, color, and texture to showcase the thoughtful and artistic design choices that made this Craftsman home so unique.
Why This Project Stands Out
What I love about this project is how The Platform Experiment took a historic home and infused it with modern, artistic flair. It’s a perfect example of how design can evolve without erasing the past. My goal in photographing this space was to bring that feeling to life—to show how design choices can both respect history and push boundaries. The final images reflect the harmony between the old and the new, and that’s what makes this Glendale Craftsman truly stand out.
